As someone who took a chew of one of his novels, tasted junk and read it entirely anyway (I have eaten things too it would make sense, foremost to me, I should not have eaten), then nibbled on a second novel and stopped and threw it across the room (actually, because I wanted the gods watching), I find this review by Lucy Ellmann of Chuck Palahniuk's new novel Snuff vigorously uncontroversial. Palahniuk is a shit writer. If you want to surrender yourself to something lewd or shocking or whatever that's easy to read and hard to put down, that tricks you into thinking it's spiked with some strong questions about all our morality circa right now — off the top of my head I can recommend Michel Houellebecq, but there are many other such writers, my god, who can write. There are many, many, many other such writers. It's a fucking tradition. It's not pop, it's not American Idol, it's not mainstream, and it's not commercial. Palahniuk Is The One is a scam.
